Mark Simmons | Director
Mark has over 20 years experience in the engineering, building and construction industry. He started his career with a large Mechanical Services Company as a Commissioning Technician. His pragmatic and sensible approach to complex issues saw him quickly promoted to Project Manager. During this time, Mark has been responsible for large, multi-million-dollar projects in both, the public and private sectors across several industries.
In the last 10 years Mark has specialised in the transition to operation of complex facilities. This started with the iconic ANZ Centre in Docklands, Melbourne where he was responsible for Greenstar tuning and the development of operational and maintenance systems. Mark was then responsible for the long-term engineering operation which resulted in award-winning energy efficiency outcomes from the various sustainability initiatives he led post construction. This included tri-generation, blackwater treatment, solar generation, displacement HVAC, DALI lighting control, river water cooling, and chiller optimisation.
In the next phase of his career, Mark managed the transition to operation and operation post DLP of the Aurora Data Centre, Derwent Park and the Hyperscale Data Centres in both Sydney and Melbourne. At the time, the Hyperscale provider was a new entrant to the Australian Data Centre Market providing solutions that are more secure, available, efficient and scalable. To meet these goals Mark provided risk and data-driven planned maintenance solutions to the operation, which resulted in significant cost savings whilst delivering 100% uptime to the sites.
During this time Mark also lead and recruited the top talent in the country to ensure their critical operation would be a success. This resulted in a continually improving, high performance unit that always delivered results with some of the highest levels of staff retention in the industry.
More recently, Mark brought his Data Centre expertise back to ANZ Bank, who own and operate some of the best-in-class and most mature facilities worldwide. Here, he provided end-to-end Engineering Services aimed at minimising risk and optimising operational costs. In 2020, Mark’s work was formally recognised by the Facility Management Association of Australia following the development of an independently certified ISO9001 quality management framework. This framework was carefully aligned to ANZ’s corporate goals in Digital Innovation, Corporate Governance and Climate Change.
